Chapter 10: The Final Chapter

So for this chapter, we are suppose to embed at least one of these videos to my blog, but for youtube, i was having alot of trouble because when i went to My Account / Add a Blog/Site and then entered in my id n password for blogger, it just kept on coming up with the message 'We are fetching your blog information...please wait' and would not reload or continue. so i had no success on youtube. and when i went to google video, it just lead me to youtube after i clicked on a video so that didnt help much. but the service in the two sites are the same because they are the same site after all. I think what made smoething like youtube so successful is because that anyone can upload videos, and that people around the world can see each other and get a picture of their everyday life.
To download videos to your computer you have to follow a couple steps:
  1. On the video's playback page, click the "Download" button. If you've purchased the video, you'll need to sign into your account before the "Download" button will appear.
  2. When prompted, select the option to save the video file. If you're not prompted to save the file, refer to the note below.
  3. From your desktop, open the saved .gvp file using Wordpad. For Mac users, open the .gvp file using TextEdit.
  4. In the text file, you should see a line that looks like "url: http://vp.video.google.com/...". Copy that line, removing "url:" and paste it into your browser's address bar.
Once the file has finished downloading, save the file to your desktop. Then, use the Google Video Player to open the file.

For the apple trailers, the high definition is definitely much better quality in pictures, it is much sharper and more crisp then the stand definition, but the only downside is that it takes much longer to load. but worth the wait. for standard definition, it doesn't take that long to load, and you have different sizes to choose from, small, medium or large, and the picture quality is not that great, but still ok quality. i have watched a couple other trailers some i will see, some i will not, for me, movies is not about how good the trailer is, its about the case, the storyline n how well it's put together, if you have a great trailer and then the movie does not live up to its standards then you are only in for a bigger dissapointment.

That is the end of my blog, hope you enjoyed reading this, have a great summer all. Riceman

Chapter 9: Your Life2Do

http://www.43things.com/person/riceman102684 - this is the address for my account in 43things. So far i have added 20 things I want to do or have done already. I think this site is a great idea. It brings people around the world together because they share the same goals, this way the people in that group can encourage each other while reaching for that goal. The site is very easy to use, it gives u a list of things people want to do, or if you want, you can type in what you want to do and add it on there as well. Chapter 8: Podcasts & Audio

http://www.podcast.net/show/50673
http://www.podcast.net/show/75405
http://stargatefancast.podomatic.com/rss2.xml
I enjoyed my podcast experience, because it gives me a chance to listen to what I'm interested in and also gives me the freedom to be working on something else. This will be something that I do again, it saves me time to read the article online, now I can just listen and do other things at the same time as well. The search was pretty easy, just type in what your interested in and then a list of results will show up. All I did was went to Google n searched for podcasts and went from there.

My title for the audio book is "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, which can be found here: http://www.thoughtaudio.com/titlelist/0003-artofwar/index.html This is a book that was
written in China over two thousand years ago, The Art of War provides the first known attempt to formulate a rational basis for the planning and conduct of military operations. Sun Tzu teaches in a straightforward style how to command an operation of utmost efficiency and effectiveness, and the elements required to win.

I think audio books are a great idea for people on the go, because you can listen to them in the car, or on the train or in the subway, this will also protect your eyes if you are on moving vehicle and allows you to enjoy your book anywhere you go. You can also save space, because on one cd you can fit many books, and this also saves trees as well.

http://www.audiobooksforfree.com - This site not only have audio books that you can download, with different speed, you get charged for different amount of money, for example, 8 and 16kb/sec are free, 24, 32, 48kb/sec cost $5, $6, and $7 US. Also they sell the audio books on dvds (9 dvds for $100US), or on a mp3 player (ARCHOS 20GB Multimedia + 16GB of audio books + V.A.T. + Delivery = $600USD), or they also have it on hard drive, cd mp3, single dvds, audio books on memory cards.
http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/ - This site lets you rent and buy audio books, for rental, theres a couple different options, it lets you to have either 1 or up to 4 selections, and that ranges from $11.95- $36.95 on a 12 month subscription, or monthly at $14.95 up to $39.95. Or you can download it directly into your computer, ranging from $14.95 to $27.95.
http://www.soundsgood.com/Home.aspx?tabname=home - This site lets you
receive 2 downloads a month for just $19.95 or you can purchase titles individually at a non membership price.

http://www.barcodesinc.com/generator/index.php - this is a site that i found that generates bar codes, this would be helpful for people who are in businesses that needs to organize their products.
http://atom.smasher.org/error/ - this site is a fun site that allows u to generates error messages, u can pick icon n message for your own liking.
http://www.freepasswordgenerator.com/ - this site allows u to create free passwords, this is useful when u are out of ideas on what to put as passwords.

i think online generators are fun to have, it could help people who can't think out side of the box or for people who have brain farts, when i'm doing a project and i cant think of things to do for it, i can use the generator and help me with my project. so overall, i think its a great idea to have, and i should/will be using it in the future.

Chapter 4: Social bookmarking

For this lab, we had to create a profile and bookmark some sites on del.icio.us it was pretty easy to do, some of my websites were from the popular section of the site and some i searched myself, sharing the sites to the instructors was pretty easy too, just have to edit the tag name and adding the java script was not hard too. Over all it was a simple lab, easy to use as well. Riceman102684

Chapter 3: Tagging and Blogging

Tagging and Blogging is an interesting way of reorganizing your blog or news or videos, my experences at Technorati site was pretty easy, it was pretty user friendly with lots of options to choose. The three blogs i found using Technoriati are:

http://www.engadget.com - http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/09/jinke-hanlin-ibook-ereader-revs-to-v3/

http://www.gizmodo.com - http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/space/nasas-moon-mission-trailer-258940.php

http://www.techcrunch.com -
http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/09/weebly-launches-blog-platform-bags-650k-investment/

I found them by either going to the Popular section of Technoriati or I searched by what I was interested in and this is how it came up. The reason why I choose those links/blogs is because I find them interesting and technology related as I like to be always updated on whats going on in the technology world.

Right now, I probably would not use RSS or Technoriati favorites that often because I usually go on Yahoo news or Time or sites that I like to visit when I want to get the latest news, but who knows it might change as time goes on.

Chapter 2: RSS

http://www.google.com/reader/shared/11284435116605305686 That my friends is the link to my rss, it took me some time to figure it out because i never used it before, i was confused on how to get the link to be shared and how to add links and etc etc, but in the end i got it working and so here we are. There are more than one way to add an item, the first one would be to click on the sharing icon, the item will be added to your public page. Or you can assign tags to individual items, to do so you have to click on the 'add tag' link and enter a descriptive tag name. You can then go to the settings page and make the tag public. The third way is to add a clip and to do so you have to copy-pasting the provided HTML code into your site template. To obtain the HTML code, go to the "tags" tab in the settings page. You will also be able to customize the appearance of your clip to match your site. I wouldn't use this in everyday life because i usually have my own sites that i like to visit for fun, news, sports etc etc, and i'd rather talk to my friends about it either in person or online, rather than sending them a link for them to read it. So for my RSS is probably not the way to go, at least for now. Riceman

The course looks like its going to be fun and with so many friends and secret identies in the room, there's bound to be more adventures to come.
